## Why Teams Move from Asana to monday.com

Teams usually look at monday.com when work outgrows lists and projects: when they want boards that hold any kind of record, dashboards across many boards, and automations they can set up without a developer.

If you are still deciding, our [monday.com vs Asana comparison](https://www.taskrhino.ca/project-management-software/monday-vs-asana/) sets out the differences in features and pricing.

## What Moves, What We Rebuild, What Cannot Move

Data moves through Asana's exports and API; customizations such as automations, views and forms are rebuilt in monday.com.

## How the Migration Runs

Every step is agreed with you before the next one starts.

### Free assessment

We look at your Asana projects, item counts, files and automations, and send a fixed quote with the list of what moves, what we rebuild and what cannot move.

### Data map

Each part of Asana becomes a monday.com board, group, item or column of the right type. You sign off the map, including what to leave behind.

### Test migration

We move a sample with its comments and files, and you check it in monday.com.

### Full migration and rebuild

We move everything in scope, link the items, and rebuild your automations, views and forms in monday.com.

### Checks and handover

We compare item counts board by board, walk your team through the new boards, and hand the export files over to you.

## When Asana Is Still the Right Call

Moving is not always the answer. Stay on Asana, or plan the move carefully, if:

- Your projects depend on Asana portfolios and goals reporting, and nobody has time to set up the matching monday.com dashboards. Plan that work first.
- You have a few small projects with no comments or files you need to keep. monday.com's Asana import or a spreadsheet import is enough.

### Doing it yourself, compared

The options monday.com gives you, set against a full migration. Each fact comes from the sources below.

| | monday.com's Asana import | Spreadsheet import (CSV or Excel) | TaskRhino migration |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Task fields | Name, assignee, completed, notes, due date and parent name | The columns in your file | Every field, including custom fields |
| Comments and files | Not listed as supported | Not imported (nothing goes into updates) | Comments as updates, files in a Files column |
| Subtasks | Parent name only | Arrive as items | Subitems under their task |
| Rules, forms and views | Not moved | Not moved | Rebuilt in monday.com |

The assessment tells you which of these apply before you commit.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Can I move Asana to monday.com myself?

You can. monday.com has a built-in Asana import that brings in task name, assignee, completed, notes, due date and parent name. Comments, attachments, custom fields and rules are not on its list, so teams that need those use a full migration.

### Do comments and attachments move?

Asana's API returns each task's comments (as stories) and its attachments. We copy comments into the item's updates and attachments into a Files column on the same item.

### What happens to our automations, views and forms?

No export carries them. We list each one in the assessment and rebuild the ones you still need as monday.com automations, views, forms and dashboards.

### What cannot be moved?

Change history (who changed what, and when): An import can't write monday.com's activity log; it starts on the day of the move. Everything else in the table above either moves or is rebuilt in monday.com.

### How long does it take?

It depends on how many projects and items you have, how many files, and how much needs rebuilding. The dates are fixed in your quote after the free assessment.

### How much does it cost?

It depends on your projects, item counts, files and automations. The assessment is free and ends with a fixed quote.
