## Why Teams Move from Jira to monday.com

Teams usually look at monday.com when engineering and the rest of the company want to plan in one place: product, marketing and operations on the same boards and dashboards as the sprints.

Our [monday.com vs Jira comparison](https://www.taskrhino.ca/en-us/project-management-software/monday-vs-jira/) compares the two.

## What Moves, What We Rebuild, What Cannot Move

Data moves through Jira's exports and API; customizations such as automations, views and forms are rebuilt in monday.com.

## How the Migration Runs

Every step is agreed with you before the next one starts.

### Free assessment

We look at your Jira projects and issues, item counts, files and automations, and send a fixed quote with the list of what moves, what we rebuild and what cannot move.

### Data map

Each part of Jira becomes a monday.com board, group, item or column of the right type. You sign off the map, including what to leave behind.

### Test migration

We move a sample with its comments and files, and you check it in monday.com.

### Full migration and rebuild

We move everything in scope, link the items, and rebuild your automations, views and forms in monday.com.

### Checks and handover

We compare item counts board by board, walk your team through the new boards, and hand the export files over to you.

## When Jira Is Still the Right Call

Moving is not always the answer. Stay on Jira, or plan the move carefully, if:

- Your engineering team depends on Jira-only apps or deep links from your code tools, and the other teams do not need to work with them. A two-way sync may serve you better than a move.
- You have a few small projects and issues with no comments or files you need to keep. monday.com's Jira integration or a spreadsheet import is enough.

### Doing it yourself, compared

The options monday.com gives you, set against a full migration. Each fact comes from the sources below.

| | monday.com's Jira integration | Spreadsheet import (CSV or Excel) | TaskRhino migration |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| How it moves data | Syncs issues through an integration recipe; monday.com suggests batches of about 100 items | A CSV file, up to 8,000 rows into a new board | Every project, planned and checked before the switch |
| Older issues | Not retroactive: an issue syncs once it is updated | Whatever is in the file | Every issue in scope |
| Comments and attachments | Not described in monday.com’s integration help | Not imported (nothing goes into updates) | Comments as updates, files in a Files column |
| Workflows and rules | Not moved | Not moved | Rebuilt in monday.com |

The assessment tells you which of these apply before you commit.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Can I move Jira to monday.com myself?

monday.com moves Jira data through its Jira integration: you add a sync recipe and trigger it project by project, in batches of about 100 items. The integration is not retroactive, so older issues sync only once they are updated, and its help doesn’t describe syncing comments or attachments.

### Do comments and attachments move?

Jira's all-fields CSV export includes comments, each in its own column. Jira Cloud has no bulk download of attachment files, so we fetch each file from its link and put it in a Files column on the item.

### What happens to our automations, views and forms?

No export carries them. We list each one in the assessment and rebuild the ones you still need as monday.com automations, views, forms and dashboards.

### What cannot be moved?

Change history (who changed what, and when): An import can't write monday.com's activity log; it starts on the day of the move. Everything else in the table above either moves or is rebuilt in monday.com.

### How long does it take?

It depends on how many projects and issues and items you have, how many files, and how much needs rebuilding. The dates are fixed in your quote after the free assessment.

### How much does it cost?

It depends on your projects and issues, item counts, files and automations. The assessment is free and ends with a fixed quote.
