monday.com Automations: Guides, Limits and Workarounds

monday.com automations turn a board into a working process: a status changes, a button is clicked or a form comes in, and the next step happens on its own. They also have limits that only show up once a workflow grows past a few recipes. This hub collects our guides on both: how to build the automations teams ask us for most, and how to work around the places where the built-in recipes stop.

What This Hub Covers

Most monday.com accounts start with simple recipes, such as notifying someone when a status changes or moving an item when it is done. The questions start when a process spans several boards, needs a condition the recipe builder cannot express, sends email to clients, or has to survive a board being duplicated for the next project. The articles below cover those cases; when you want them built for you, our monday.com customization services can help. New to the platform? Start with our complete monday.com guide.

Our articles on automations are written from those questions. Each one explains what monday.com does natively, what breaks and why, and the workarounds that hold up in production. Where the native features stop, the guides say so and set out the options, including BoardBridge by TaskRhino, our forms app for monday.com, where it fits. For anything else, ask us.

Frequently Asked Questions About monday.com Automations

Can monday.com automations use if/then conditions?

Classic recipes combine conditions with AND only and have no else branch. The workflow builder adds If/Else, multi-branch and Smart conditions from the Standard plan. Our guide explains what conditional logic monday.com supports and how to build compound conditions on status and dropdown columns.

Is there a test or dry-run mode for monday.com automations?

No. When you test an automation, it runs on real items and sends real emails. Even the workflow builder’s Run now is a live run. Teams work around this with duplicate test boards, test groups, test items addressed to themselves and pre-condition checks, all covered in our dry-run guide.

Can monday.com email automations CC or BCC people?

Not with the standard Gmail and Outlook email actions: they have no CC or BCC field, and each recipient gets a separate email. monday service’s Send new email workflow block has CC and BCC on the Pro plan and above. Our CC/BCC guide explains the limit and the options for adding CC recipients that change with the item.

Why did my automations stop working after I duplicated a board?

monday.com copies the automation and integration recipes that are turned on, but integration recipes need their account connection selected again. Custom automations built with Gmail, Outlook or Slack blocks, automations that were turned off and webhook subscriptions don’t carry over, and a copied cross-board recipe can still point at the original board. Our board duplication guide lists them with fixes.

Do automations count toward a monthly limit?

Yes. monday.com plans include a monthly quota of automation actions (Standard 250, Pro 25,000, Enterprise 250,000), and every action counts: notifying board subscribers uses one action per person notified. See form submissions and the automation quota.
