monday.com Form Response Editing Without Enterprise

A small wooden rhino, with a pencil and eraser, reopens a paper form pulled back out of a small wooden filing drawer.

monday.com gates form response editing behind the Enterprise plan, and even then it’s limited. You can only edit responses for items that the form itself created (not pre-existing items). There’s a hard cap of 10 edits per submission. Files can be added but not deleted, and signature answers can’t be edited at all. And monday.com doesn’t document whether turning it on later covers forms that are already published.

BoardBridge — Form & Workflow Automation for monday.com allows unlimited re-submissions to the same form on any monday.com plan (Standard, Pro, or Enterprise). No 10-edit cap. No restriction to form-created items. No “enable before publishing” requirement. Book a free 30-minute consultation to see how it works.

When monday.com announced “Edit Form Responses”, the community thought they finally got the ability to update existing monday.com items via forms — a long-standing community request.

They didn’t.

  • Lets users edit their own previous submissions (if the form creator turned on Response editing in the form settings)
  • Only works on Enterprise plan (monday.com Help Center)
  • Needs Response viewing turned on, and adds an edit-link column to the board

monday.com introduced “Edit Form Responses” as an Enterprise-only feature after years of user requests. But what it delivered is limited.

monday.com’s help article sets three limits: response editing is Enterprise-only, each submission allows 10 edits for viewers, guests and external respondents, and file answers can be added to but not deleted (monday.com Help Center).

According to monday.com’s official documentation:

Feature Free/Standard Pro Enterprise
Edit Form Responses No No Yes (10-edit limit)

Even on Enterprise, response editing has five limitations:

Standard and Pro users cannot enable response editing at all. This is a hard plan gate — no workaround.

For teams on Pro ($19/seat/month billed annually, USD), upgrading to Enterprise means a custom quote from monday.com sales — just to let people edit form responses.

The Enterprise response editing feature only works on items that the form itself created (monday.com Help Center). If you have an existing monday.com item (created manually, via API, or by an automation) and you send someone a form to update it, they cannot edit their response — because the item wasn’t created by the form.

This is the core limitation that monday.com failed to solve. Users asked for forms that update existing items. What monday.com delivered was a feature that lets you edit items the form created — which is a different use case entirely.

Even on Enterprise, each form submission can only be edited 10 times (monday.com Help Center). After the 10th edit, viewers, guests and external respondents can no longer edit it through the form; the item itself stays editable on the board.

For use cases like vendor onboarding (where a vendor might update contact info, certifications, insurance documents, and pricing over months), the 10-edit cap breaks the workflow. After 10 updates, you’re back to manual data entry or creating a new form submission (which creates a duplicate item).

Some users report that the response editing setting must be turned on before you publish the form. monday.com’s help article doesn’t say so, so test on a copy before you rely on enabling it later.

Enterprise response editing has restrictions on file uploads and signatures. According to monday.com’s official documentation:

“Questions related to Files or Subitems can be edited or added to, but not deleted.”

This means:

  • Users cannot delete previously uploaded files
  • Users can add new files (but can’t remove old ones)
  • Signature answers can’t be edited at all
  • Result: For compliance, legal, or insurance workflows where documents expire or need to be updated, Enterprise response editing is insufficient

Even with Enterprise “Edit Form Responses,” you cannot edit Signature or Connect Boards question types (monday.com Help Center).

monday.com’s official documentation confirms:

  • Signature fields: Permanently locked after submission
  • Connect Boards fields: Cannot be edited at all

If your form includes contract signatures, NDA signatures, or linked board references (Connect Boards columns), those values are set in stone after the first submission — no edits allowed, even if you’re paying for Enterprise.

Files can only be added, not deleted, when a submission is edited (monday.com Help Center). If someone uploads the wrong contract PDF, they can upload a corrected version, but the wrong one stays attached until someone removes it on the board.

Form response editing isn’t a luxury — it’s a basic expectation. Here’s why teams need it:

You send a client a form to collect their contact info, project details, and preferences. Two weeks later, they need to update their email address or project scope. Without response editing, they fill out the entire form again from scratch, creating a duplicate item — or worse, they email you the change and you manually update the board.

A contractor starts filling out a compliance form but doesn’t have all the information handy (insurance cert number, license expiration date). They submit what they have. Later, they get the missing info. Without response editing, they can’t go back and complete the form — they’d have to fill out a new submission or email you the details.

A team member fills out a travel form and accidentally enters the wrong departure date. They realize the mistake an hour later. Without response editing, they can’t fix it — they either submit a duplicate form (creating confusion) or message someone to manually fix the board.

A vendor’s contact person changes every 6 months. Equipment lists change. Pricing changes. Certifications expire and get renewed. You need the vendor to update their information as it changes — not fill out a brand new form every time, creating duplicate records.

In all four cases, the solution is simple: let the user re-open the form, see what they previously entered, edit what needs changing, and re-submit. The original monday.com item updates with the new data. No duplicates. No manual intervention.

The workaround that comes up in the monday.com community when you hit the 10-edit cap:

  1. Duplicate the form
  2. Resend it to the user
  3. They fill it out again (creating a new board item)
  4. Manually merge the new item’s data with the old item’s data
  5. Delete the old item (or the new item, depending on which has the most complete data)

This is not a workaround. This is admitting defeat and returning to manual data management.

The “Edit Form Responses” feature was supposed to eliminate duplicate items. The 10-edit cap brings them back. Learn more about monday.com WorkForms limitations and why this matters.

This defeats the entire purpose of client self-service forms. You’re back to manual data entry.

This creates duplicate board items. You’re back to manual data merging — exactly what “Edit Form Responses” was supposed to eliminate.

This is admitting forms don’t work for your workflow. You’re back to email-based data collection.

This spreads the same data across multiple board items. Now you have the opposite problem — fragmented data instead of duplicated data.

None of these are solutions. They’re all workarounds that return you to pre-form manual workflows.

The 10-edit cap is non-negotiable, even for Enterprise customers.

There’s no setting to increase it. There’s no support ticket you can file to access it. The common community answer: create a new form.

The cap applies per submission, not per user.

If 10 different users each edit the same form response once, that’s 10 edits — cap reached. The limit is tied to the submission itself, not the person editing it.

The help article mentions no edit counter.

monday.com’s help article doesn’t describe a remaining-edits count or a warning before the last edit, so plan as if users won’t see one.

Unlocking costs more than solving the problem elsewhere.

Even if monday.com adds an “Unlimited Edits” add-on in the future, you’re already paying premium pricing for Enterprise. Paying more to remove an artificial cap makes no sense when third-party tools offer unlimited edits as standard.

BoardBridge forms are built on a fundamentally different architecture than WorkForms. Every form is tied to a specific monday.com item via the URL. When someone opens the form, the system fetches that item’s current column values and pre-fills the form. When they submit, the item updates.

Because the form is always tied to an existing item, re-submissions are unlimited by design. There is no concept of “editing a response” — there’s just opening the form again and submitting new data.

  1. You send a form URL to a vendor, client, or team member. The URL includes the monday.com item ID (e.g., /f/vendor-form/123456789).
  2. They open the form for the first time. Fields pre-fill with existing data from the monday.com item (if any data exists). They fill out the form and submit.
  3. The monday.com item updates with their submitted data.
  4. Two weeks later, they need to update something. They click the same URL again.
  5. The form opens with their previous submission pre-filled. Every field shows the current data from the monday.com item.
  6. They edit the fields that changed, leave everything else as-is, and submit again.
  7. The item updates with the new data.

This can happen 10 times, 50 times, 100 times — there is no limit. The form link never expires. Users can re-submit as many times as needed.

Learn more about monday.com form pre-fill without Enterprise.

BoardBridge has no submission counter or edit limit. Each time someone submits the form, the system calls monday.com’s change_multiple_column_values mutation — the same update operation every time. The API doesn’t care if this is the 1st submission or the 100th.

Unlike monday.com’s response editing (which only works on form-created items), BoardBridge forms can update any monday.com item — whether it was created manually, by an API, by an automation, or by another tool.

Example: You have 500 vendor records on a board, created manually over the past 2 years. You want to send each vendor a form to update their contact info and certifications. With BoardBridge, each vendor gets a unique form URL that targets their specific item. They fill it out, their item updates — no new items created, no duplicates.

With monday.com WorkForms (even on Enterprise), this is impossible natively. The “Edit Form Responses” feature doesn’t apply because the items weren’t created by the form.

Sometimes you want users to be able to update certain fields but not others. BoardBridge offers per-field overwrite protection.

Each form field has an “allow overwrite” toggle:

  • Overwrite allowed (default): Latest submission wins
  • Overwrite protected: First value is preserved; later submissions cannot change it

Example: A vendor form has fields for company name, contact email, insurance cert number, and equipment list. You turn on overwrite protection for company name and insurance cert number (critical data that shouldn’t change). The vendor can update their contact email and equipment list as many times as needed, but the company name and cert number stay locked after the first submission.

Signature fields: BoardBridge doesn’t currently support Signature column types.

Connect Boards: Not supported yet.

For workflows that use text, dropdowns, dates, numbers, emails and phone numbers, unlimited edits work out of the box on any plan.

Take a team that manages 200+ vendors across 150+ events a year. Each vendor has a monday.com item with contact info, certifications, equipment lists, and pricing.

Before BoardBridge (manual process):

  • New vendor: Fill out a Google Form → staff manually copies data to monday.com
  • Vendor update: Vendor emails changes → staff manually updates the board
  • Result: 4-6 hours/week spent on manual data entry and email coordination

With BoardBridge:

  • New vendor: Staff creates a monday.com item with basic info (company name)
  • Staff sends vendor the BoardBridge form URL (unique to that vendor’s item)
  • Vendor opens form, fills out contact info, certifications, equipment list → submits
  • monday.com item updates automatically
  • 6 months later, vendor’s contact person changes → they click the same form URL, update the contact email, re-submit
  • 1 year later, vendor’s insurance cert renews → they click the form URL again, upload the new cert, re-submit
  • Result: No re-keying. Vendors update their own info as it changes, and staff spend about 30 minutes a week checking data instead of 4-6 hours entering it.

Over 18 months, a vendor might submit the form 3-8 times. No 10-edit cap, and the same link keeps working.

20 questions

Can users edit their form submissions in monday.com?

Yes, but only on Enterprise plans with the “Edit Form Responses” feature enabled. Even then, users can only edit items that the form itself created (not pre-existing items), with a maximum of 10 edits per submission. Files can be added but not deleted. BoardBridge allows unlimited re-submissions on any monday.com plan, with no edit cap and support for pre-existing items.

How do I enable form response editing in monday.com?

In monday.com Enterprise, turn on Response editing (which needs Response viewing) in form settings. A unique edit link is generated for each submission. monday.com doesn’t document whether turning it on after the form goes live covers earlier submissions, so enable it before publishing to be safe. Response editing is not available on Standard or Pro plans.

What is the form response edit limit in monday.com?

monday.com Enterprise limits each form submission to 10 edits. After the 10th edit, viewers, guests and external respondents can no longer edit it through the form; the item stays editable on the board. BoardBridge has no edit limit — users can re-submit forms unlimited times.

What happens if two people edit the same form at the same time?

Last submission wins. If User A and User B both open the form at 2:00 PM, make different changes, and submit 5 minutes apart, User B’s submission (the latest) overwrites User A’s changes. This is the same behavior as monday.com’s native board editing — if two people edit the same item simultaneously, last save wins. For high-conflict scenarios (multiple people editing the same item frequently), consider splitting the form into multiple forms with different owners, or using monday.com’s activity log to track changes.

Can I see a history of edits (who changed what and when)?

Use monday.com’s activity log on the item: it shows which columns changed and when. Each BoardBridge submission writes to the item like any other update, so its changes appear there too.

Does unlimited re-submission mean users can spam the form?

Anyone with an item’s form link can submit it as many times as they want, and each submission updates that item. To limit this, send each recipient the link for their own item instead of a shared link, and turn on per-field overwrite protection for fields that shouldn’t change after the first submission.

Does this work with file uploads?

monday.com’s response editing lets files be added but not deleted. BoardBridge’s handling of file uploads isn’t documented yet, so ask us how it would work in your setup before you rely on it for documents.

How is this different from just sending someone a link to edit the board item directly?

Editing the board item directly requires the person to have a monday.com account with access to your workspace. BoardBridge forms are public — no login required. External vendors, clients, and contractors can update their data without needing a monday.com seat. Additionally, forms provide: – Controlled access (users only see and edit specific columns, not the entire board) – Custom branding (your logo and colors, not monday.com’s interface) – No training required (forms are easier for non-technical users than monday.com’s full interface)

What if I only want certain fields to be editable on re-submissions?

Use per-field overwrite protection. Turn on overwrite protection for fields that should be locked after the first submission. Leave overwrite allowed for fields users can update. Example: Vendor form with company name (protected), contact email (editable), equipment list (editable), certifications (editable). The vendor can update their email and equipment list as many times as needed, but the company name is locked after their first submission.

Does re-submission consume monday.com automation quota?

No. BoardBridge form submissions run on BoardBridge’s servers, not inside monday.com’s automation engine. Each submission calls monday.com’s API to update the item — this is a data write operation, not an automation action. Your Standard plan’s 250 automation actions/month are completely unaffected by form submissions. Learn more about monday.com form submission automation quota.

Can I use monday.com forms to update pre-existing board items, or only new submissions?

Native Edit Form Responses only allows editing new submissions after initial submit via a generated link; it does not support updating pre-existing items directly with forms. For pre-existing items, third-party apps like BoardBridge enable targeted update forms that populate and edit specific items regardless of plan level. Enterprise users still lack native prefill for updates on old items without workarounds.

What are the limitations of monday.com’s Edit Form Responses feature for Enterprise users?

It edits only items the form created, caps viewers, guests and external respondents at 10 edits per submission, can’t edit Signature or Connect Boards questions, and lets files be added but not deleted. BoardBridge has no edit cap and targets existing items on all plans.

Is there a workaround for Standard/Pro users to edit form responses since it’s Enterprise-only?

Standard and Pro plans lack native Edit Form Responses, forcing manual updates or back-and-forth communication. BoardBridge provides a full workaround with customizable update forms that allow editing submissions or existing items on any plan, including automation for link distribution. It integrates seamlessly without upgrading to Enterprise.

How can I automate sending edit links for form submissions in monday.com?

Enable ‘Response editing’ in form settings to auto-add a submission link column, then use automations to email the link when an email is captured in the form. For Enterprise users, this works post-submission; non-Enterprise users can’t enable it natively but can use BoardBridge to automate update links for any submission or item. Ensure forms collect emails for reliable delivery.

Will monday.com bring Edit Form Responses to Pro plans, and what’s the timeline?

monday.com has not published a timeline. As of October 2026 the help article lists Edit Form Responses as Enterprise only. In the meantime, BoardBridge offers update forms on all plans.

Can I use automations to trigger form edit links only after certain board conditions are met, like approval status?

Yes. You can configure automations to send the form edit link (generated in the response editing column) conditionally based on board status changes or other triggers. However, you’ll need to manually set up the automation to email the link from the submission column—monday.com doesn’t offer native conditional logic for when the link becomes available, so you may need third-party automation tools or custom integrations to gate access based on approval workflows.

Can I bypass the 10-edit limit by having users resubmit the form instead of editing their existing response?

No, this creates a separate submission rather than editing the original response, which defeats the purpose of form response editing for iterative updates. Additionally, if you have a response limit set on your form, each resubmission counts toward that cap, potentially blocking legitimate submissions. The 10-edit hard limit applies per submission, so users would need to understand they’re creating duplicate records rather than updating a single item.

If I use BoardBridge or another third-party integration to update items instead of relying on form response editing, can users still edit their original form submission?

Yes, BoardBridge and similar integrations can push form data to monday.com items without consuming the 10-edit limit on the form submission itself. However, if your workflow requires users to edit through the form interface specifically, the original submission remains locked after 10 edits—the integration doesn’t unlock the form submission, it only provides an alternative update path for the underlying item data. This approach works best when you can route updates through automation rather than direct form editing.

Can I work around the limit by creating a multi-step form workflow where each ‘step’ is a separate form submission?

Technically yes, but this is operationally cumbersome and violates the intent of response editing. Each separate form submission would have its own 10-edit budget, but users would see multiple submissions in your board instead of a single evolving record, creating data fragmentation and confusion. This approach also consumes your form response limits faster if you have one configured, making it impractical for iterative workflows.

Does the 10-edit limit apply differently to internal monday.com users versus external or guest submitters?

The monday.com help article scopes the 10-edit cap to Viewers, Guests and external users. It does not say board owners or admins are locked out, and the item itself stays editable on the board. The distinction matters for permission management, but not for circumventing the edit cap itself.

If you need Enterprise for reasons beyond forms (advanced dashboards, SSO, 250K automation actions/month, large team with volume pricing), upgrading makes sense. See how form submissions count toward the automation quota.

But don’t upgrade to Enterprise just for form response editing if:

  • You only need forms that update existing items (not new items)
  • You need unlimited edits (not a 10-edit cap)
  • You’re a small team (under 20 seats) where the cost jump is significant

BoardBridge solves response editing without requiring an Enterprise upgrade, with additional features monday.com doesn’t offer (unlimited edits, works on pre-existing items, per-field overwrite protection, dual-board mapping).

If you’re frustrated by monday.com’s Enterprise paywall for response editing — or you’ve upgraded to Enterprise and hit the 10-edit cap — BoardBridge offers unlimited re-submissions on any monday.com plan.
