Why Teams Move from Airtable to monday.com

Airtable is a flexible database. Teams usually look at monday.com when they want that data inside a work platform the whole company uses: assignments, timelines, workload and dashboards on the same boards.

Our Airtable vs monday.com comparison goes through the differences.

What Moves, What We Rebuild, What Cannot Move

Data moves through Airtable's exports and API; customizations such as automations, views and forms are rebuilt in monday.com.

When Airtable Is Still the Right Call

Moving is not always the answer. Stay on Airtable, or plan the move carefully, if:

  • Your bases are mostly a database for an app or a website, not work your team manages. monday.com is built around work and people, not as a back-end database.
  • You have a few small bases and tables with no comments or files you need to keep. A spreadsheet import is enough.

Doing it yourself, compared

The options monday.com gives you, set against a full migration. Each fact comes from the sources below.

Spreadsheet import (CSV or Excel)TaskRhino migration
TablesOne CSV per table, as Number, Status, Email, Date or Text into a new boardEvery field as the matching column type
Linked recordsArrive as textConnect boards columns
AttachmentsLinks that expire after a few hoursFiles copied into a Files column
Formulas, automations and interfacesNot movedRebuilt in monday.com

The assessment tells you which of these apply before you commit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I move Airtable to monday.com myself?

monday.com has no built-in Airtable import. You can download a CSV from each Airtable view and import it as a spreadsheet, but linked records arrive as text and attachment links expire after a few hours.

Do comments and attachments move?

Airtable's CSV export gives each attachment as a file name and a link that expires after a few hours, so we copy the files into a Files column during the move. Record comments are not in the CSV export, so we read them through Airtable's API and copy them into the item's updates.

What happens to our automations, views and forms?

No export carries them. We list each one in the assessment and rebuild the ones you still need as monday.com automations, views, forms and dashboards.

What cannot be moved?

Extension data: Data stored only in extensions is not in Airtable's export. Change history (who changed what, and when): An import can't write monday.com's activity log; it starts on the day of the move. Everything else in the table above either moves or is rebuilt in monday.com.

How long does it take?

It depends on how many bases and tables and items you have, how many files, and how much needs rebuilding. The dates are fixed in your quote after the free assessment.

How much does it cost?

It depends on your bases and tables, item counts, files and automations. The assessment is free and ends with a fixed quote.
