Why Teams Move from Notion to monday.com

Notion is a great place to write. Teams usually look at monday.com when their project tracking has outgrown databases: when they want workload views, dashboards across projects and automations that move work along.

Our Notion vs monday.com comparison goes through the differences.

What Moves, What We Rebuild, What Cannot Move

Data moves through Notion's exports and API; customizations such as automations, views and forms are rebuilt in monday.com.

When Notion Is Still the Right Call

Moving is not always the answer. Stay on Notion, or plan the move carefully, if:

  • Notion is mainly your wiki and knowledge base, with little project tracking. monday.com workdocs can hold documents, but a wiki that works is not a reason to move.
  • You have a few small databases and pages with no comments or files you need to keep. A spreadsheet import is enough.

Doing it yourself, compared

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I move Notion to monday.com myself?

monday.com has no built-in Notion import. A Notion database exported as CSV can be imported as a spreadsheet, but page content, files and relations do not come with it.

Do comments and attachments move?

Notion's workspace export includes the files you uploaded, and its HTML export can include page and block comments. We put files in a Files column and comments in the item's updates.

What happens to our automations, views and forms?

No export carries them. We list each one in the assessment and rebuild the ones you still need as monday.com automations, views, forms and dashboards.

What cannot be moved?

Page version history: An import can't write monday.com's activity log; it starts on the day of the move. Everything else in the table above either moves or is rebuilt in monday.com.

How long does it take?

It depends on how many databases and pages and items you have, how many files, and how much needs rebuilding. The dates are fixed in your quote after the free assessment.

How much does it cost?

It depends on your databases and pages, item counts, files and automations. The assessment is free and ends with a fixed quote.
